Frequently Asked Questions
-
The right course depends on why you need CPR training. Healthcare professionals and individuals whose employer requires BLS typically need BLS Provider training. For workplaces, construction teams, childcare providers, community members, parents, caregivers, and others outside the healthcare setting, a Heartsaver® course may be the appropriate choice.
If you're taking a course for employment, licensing, or regulatory purposes, we recommend confirming the exact certification required by your employer or organization before registering.
Still unsure? Contact Silver Sage CPR and we'll be happy to help you determine which course best fits your needs.
-
Both courses teach lifesaving CPR and AED skills, but they are designed for different audiences.
BLS Provider is primarily designed for healthcare professionals and others who need BLS-level training for their profession. It includes high-quality CPR, AED use, multi-rescuer skills, and team-based response.
Heartsaver courses are designed for individuals with little or no medical training who need CPR, AED, and/or First Aid training for work, regulatory requirements, or personal preparedness.
Neither course is “better” than the other—the correct course depends on your specific certification requirements.

Course length varies depending on the course, class size, and participants.
Most instructor-led courses take approximately 2.5–4 hours to complete. Courses that include First Aid generally require additional training time compared with CPR/AED-only courses.
We never rush lifesaving skills. Our goal is for every participant to leave feeling comfortable and confident in their ability to respond during an emergency.
-
It depends on the course.
Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED includes First Aid, CPR, and AED training.
Heartsaver CPR AED and BLS Provider focus on CPR and AED-related skills and do not include a comprehensive First Aid course.
If your employer requires both CPR and First Aid, make sure you select a course that specifically includes First Aid.
-
American Heart Association course completion cards for BLS and Heartsaver courses are generally valid for two years from the end of the month in which the course was completed.
Your employer, licensing organization, or regulatory agency may have additional requirements regarding renewal or training frequency.
